 Grow your learning in Computing

Computing at Appletree Gardens First School empowers pupils to explore, problem-solve, and engage with technology responsibly in a digital world

Intent, Implementation and Impact

Our curriculum ethos has been specifically designed for our learning community and it supports us to plan, teach and evaluate our success.

I Have a Voice

Computing at Appletree enables pupils to develop and share ideas creatively using technology. Children are taught digital literacy skills that allow them to present and communicate their learning in a variety of ways, such as videos, animations and presentations, using iPads, computers and interactive whiteboards to record, share and celebrate their work.

I Reach My Potential

Our aim is for all pupils to become safe, confident and proficient users of technology who develop transferable skills to support them as independent, lifelong learners. Through a structured curriculum covering digital literacy and computer science, pupils gain practical experience of coding, programming and debugging, developing problem-solving and logical thinking skills across the curriculum.

I Have Opportunities

Pupils at Appletree benefit from regular access to high-quality technology, including a dedicated ICT suite, classroom-based devices and iPads. Weekly discrete computing lessons and cross-curricular use of ICT, supported by a carefully sequenced scheme of work and partnerships with North Tyneside Learning Trust and Teach ICT NT, ensure rich and varied learning opportunities.

I Am Happy and Safe

The computing curriculum places a strong emphasis on positive, responsible and safe use of technology. From Nursery to Year 4, pupils are taught about internet and e-safety, understanding that there are choices when using technology and learning how their online behaviour can impact themselves, others, and the wider world, supported by staff who model best practice.

I Am Healthy

Children are encouraged to develop a thoughtful and balanced approach to technology use, recognising its role in enhancing learning while supporting wellbeing. By embedding computing purposefully across the curriculum and promoting responsible digital habits, pupils learn to use technology in ways that are safe, positive and beneficial to their overall development.
